Summary Following a 'Western period', director Henry Hathaway went on to direct a series of films in which he showed his interest for exotic locales. As most of Hathaway's heros, this group of Lancers is besieged by human frailty. In particular young Lt. Stone who must battle to make a place and a name for himself in a regiment commanded by his own father. The father to son relationship has often been portrayed by Hathaway as one in which a younger man's life is led to crisis point, as the result of an absent or incompetent father and returned to the right path by an older or paternal figure. This preoccupation is apparent in the story of Lt. McGregor who accepts two new officers to his company -- the brash Lt. Fortesque and Lt. Stone, the son of the garrison's commander, Col. Stone. In an effort not to show favoritism, Stone's father barely acknowledges his son who resents this indifference and becomes embittered at both the British Army and his father. McGregor is ordered to search for a British spy who has infiltrated the army of chieftain Mohammed Khan. When found, the spy tells them Khan is planning an uprising against the British.
