Summary This melancholy comedy set in a drab Hamburg suburb is a coming-of-age narrative about three inseparable male friends in their early twenties who work in dead-end jobs but dream of a brighter future. When one of the three decides to break out of his restrictive life and take a job on a freighter bound for Singapore, the trio spends one final night on the town together. Shot over the course of this hot summer night, the film follows their misadventures as they traverse the city looking for entertainment. The wryly funny and playful narrative is typical of German cinema of the nineties, yet the friends' pranks are overshadowed by the approaching departure of one and the comedy is offset by dramatic moments that explore themes of friendship and social disfuntionality. 'Absolute Giganten' features impressive night cinematography, a stimulating pop-soundtrack and a gripping table soccer duel. Also available in Vhs.
