Summary A platoon of US commando soldiers parachute deep into occupied Burma to destroy a vital radar station. While reaching the target through dense jumgle and carrying out the mission is difficult enough, the trek back to the rendevous to be airlifted out is their real ordeal. Featuring Errol Flynn as the commander and Henry Hull as the journalist who insists on comming along, the film was directed by Raoul Walsh in the middle of a long career shooting predominantly action films. The film is significant as it was made during WW2 (filmed in California), and so has a harder edge than many later war films, and the patriotism is more earnest. As the Burmese campaign was mainly fought by the English and Australian armies, the film was the subject of much protest on release in England, where people believed that the USA was claiming the credit for success in Burma. As an interesting aside, listen out for the rare and exotic Burmese Kookaburra, who makes frequent appearances on the soundtrack.
